The original Mickey Mouse game has been given a full HD makeover, complete with 3D graphics and animation. It’s got an old-school price, too, at least in comparative terms: it will cost you a ten-spot for the privilege of nostalgia.

VVVVVV

Android Police coverage: [New Game] After Numerous Ports, Popular Platformer VVVVVV Arrives In The Android Dimension

VVVVVV takes the inverse gravity idea that’s been slowly growing in popularity and builds a game around it. But this is no runner: it’s a no-frills, hardcore platformer, with very little in the way of art and even less mercy. The main mechanic is changing your blocky character’s gravity orientation on the fly, forcing you to think in three dimensions. Well, at least two and a half. You know what I mean. If you don’t enjoy challenging games, you’d better pass on this one.

Alright, I’ll admit that limbless birds fighting pigs never made much sense in the first place, but a turn-based Angry Birds RPG is just ridiculous. Rovio is still unwilling to let its only real franchise die, and this is the result: a Paper Mario treatment for characters whose sole motivation is that they’re angry. If you like both role-playing combat AND the Angry Birds cast, this might be something you’d enjoy… as long as you can stomach the heavy-handed in-app purchases.

At least this kid-friendly game includes online multiplayer and no in-app purchases.

Beyond Gravity

More astronauts should have beards. Beards make everything better. I’m going to assume that this guy’s beard gives him the power to break the gravity of tiny planetoids in his platforming search for parts, bouncing along each one in parabolic arcs like a low-gravity Gummy Bear. The art style in Beyond Gravity is unique (maybe devs are finally losing their deathgrip on “8-bit”) and the $2 one-button game has no in-app purchases.

Beyond Gravity is procedurally generated “platformer” where you jump in-between planets and try to collect as many pickups as you can. This gets progressively harder the further you jump. No need to worry tho as you can upgrade your character with loads of upgrades and power-ups. Take control of brave space explorer and hold out as long as you can while collecting missing parts of your spaceship. Never miss to build up crazy score multipliers.

 

Hubble Bubbles

OK, so this endless runner takes place in space, right? Then why is the alien bubble guy traveling by bouncing, something that requires regular gravity? Anyway, in Hubble Bubbles, you travel unimaginable distances by bouncing on bubbles for light-years at a time. That’s actually more interesting than it sounds, since sending the bubbles up to meet your character requires considerable timing and spatial awareness. The game is free with the usual runner in-app purchases.

Welcome to the game of juggling Hubble on bouncing Bubbles. Hubble Bubbles is a skill driven arcade game, featuring madly addictive (I swear it was an accident.), straight from space gameplay. Whenever you will find yourself saying “Ok, now it’s the last time…. “, remember it’s not my fault.

Rules are simple:
1. You TAP – Highlighted Bubble GOES UP. No magic here. TAP THE BUBBLE UP.
2. TAP when Hubble (little spaceship) is above Bubble. They bounce, we fly.
(tip). Try to spin Hubble, momentum gives Hubble extra speed. Science, you know.

Super Gravitron

Super Gravitron is the original Flash game that inspired VVVVVV, featured as a full story earlier today. It’s technically a platformer game, but more of an avoider arcade title… a masochistic one at that. Your tiny, pixelated player character has to avoid oncoming blocks at all costs by moving left and right and jumping, plus switching the polarity of the gravity so that he “falls” up or down. Free with no in-app purchases.

Super Gravitron is the minigame that originally appeared at the end of VVVVVV, now available as a free, standalone game on android.

World’s Hardest Platformer 2

Want something even harder? Ask and you shall receive, weirdo. World’s Hardest Platformer 2 is basically a distilled version of those nightmarish Mario ROM hacks, with pre-made levels that will make you beg for the warm embrace of 16-bit hardcore games. There are no graphics to speak of (your character is a block), just insane timing and movement challenges, with turrets, spikes, screen-filling advancing walls, and other instruments of pixelated torture. The game includes a full level editor.

Android Police coverage: [New Game] Dragon Finga Is A 2D Brawler That Might As Well Be Called ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Rag Doll’

Rag doll physics are usually reserved for 3D games, because frankly, they look ridiculous in 2D. In Dragon Finga, they still look ridiculous, but that’s part of the fun. You control your flopping fighter as he zips and yells across the screen, punching and kicking with swipe and tap controls. The game and rookie developer would have rated higher on this list, but it’s crammed with disappointingly typical dual-currency IAPs, intrusive advertising, and annoying social networking pushes.

CalQ is a unique puzzle game, combining the time attack elements of Tetris and the sliding and math elements of 2048 and the like. You start at one spot, slide your finger along the grid, keeping track of the current total via addition, subtraction, and multiplication. Various game modes are available, plus Google Play Games leaderboards. CalQ is free, but you can get an ad-free version for just over a dollar.

CalQ is the most challenging and addicting math-based board game of the store, and it’s ¡FREE. The goal is to solve as many target numbers as possible. How it works? Very simple, you just need combine as many cells as possible. The more combined cells, the more points you score. Cells can be positive (+1,+2, and +3), negative (-1,-2 and -3) and multiplier numbers (x2 or x3), or “stars”, that will have big impact on boosting your final score.

UMAI!

Umai is a super-simple version of the tile matching game, like Bejeweled, but boiled down to its most basic element. Your pixelated character licks up matching sushi roles, getting as many in as few licks as possible. A power-up will let you chain multiple types of sushi together. I’m not a fan of the needlessly blocky art style, but I can’t argue with the price: $1 with no in-app purchases.

UMAI. is a tasty sushi puzzle game. Chain sushi together to get combos and a high score – and try to avoid the poisonous ones, they don’t taste very good. The rainbow ones, however, are quite delicious.

Train Town: Build & Explore

This developer was previously responsible for the Trainz series of painstaking sim games, but it seems they’re aiming for a younger crowds with Train Town. The player is tasked with laying down a city where an inordinate amount of metropolitan transit occurs on the rails, in bright and happy primary colors. It has some surprisingly intuitive build and camera tools, and only one in-app purchase – just under $2 to unlock all available trains and buildable objects.

Train Town is traintastic fun for everyone. Build your world, choose your train, go on exciting adventures through cityscapes, jungles and deserts…and even crash and blow things up. From the makers of the top ranked My First Trainz Set, Trainz Driver and Trainz Simulator apps comes a whole new world of fun for young train fans (or the young at heart).With a few simple taps, anyone can make their first “Train Town” in seconds. Then jump into Drive mode to explore your creation and run trains for hours to come.

Up, Down, Left, Right

Do you hate yourself? Do you feel that you need to punish yourself, and the only medium worthy of your self-flagellation is rhythm games? Can you imagine how frustrating it must be to play a rhythm game that not only actively tries to mess you up, but features no music whatsoever? It’s your unlucky day. In Up, Down, Left, Right, you perform said sequence with perfect frequency… except that in each turn you have to replace one key with a random variable. (Check the screenshots.) It’s insanely frustrating in a way that will make your brain break.

A Stroop Test is often used in clinical investigation to measure selective attention, cognitive flexibility and processing speed by asking participants to read out colours written in different inks. Up, Down, Left, Right introduces the concept of routine which is then mixed on the fly to create a fast-paced, absorbing high-score game. Up, Down, Left, Right challenges players to maintain a simple beat – roughly one every half second – tapping in the sequence Up, Down, Left, Right on a simple keyboard. As play progresses, blocks fall from the top of the screen at a steady pace.

Dungelot 2

The first Dungelot made it into our roundup over a year ago. The sequel is back with better graphics, more heroes, more monsters, and of course, more loot. Gameplay is basically a role-playing version of Minesweeper, with a mix of luck and statistics determining whether you live to fight another day or die in inglorious poverty. Whether you do or not, there will be another hero ready to take your place, thanks to the roguelike setup.

How long can you last? Explore dark dungeons and hack and slash your way to treasure through hordes of bloodthirsty monsters eager to eat you for lunch. Dungelot 2 is a remarkably simple and engaging roguelike. Develop your character, find and upgrade equipment, hunt for treasure and useful items, and, above all, survive. Perfect for quick breaks and brief play sessions. Dungeon dives last 5-10 minutes.

Dungeon Gems

Gameloft, one of the more derivative mobile publishers around, seems to have delivered an original take on the tired RPG-puzzle mashup. Dungeon Gems’ sliding mechanic is fresh, and the graphics in the action area above are top notch. Collector types should be in hog heaven, since the game includes an eye-popping 220 heroes and multiplayer asynchronous combat to show them off. Too bad the game uses the typical currency IAP angle.

Join players from all around the world in a free game filled with dragons, fantasy, and puzzle action. Experience thrilling, fast-paced puzzle gameplay with strategic RPG-style role management. Bardadum: The Kingdom Roads

You’ve got to respect a game where the main character rocks his lute so hard that he puts hair metal bands to shame. In this puzzle game you guide various fantasy characters around a grid, guiding each one to their target items and away from traps and pitfalls. According to the description, there are 500 surprisingly colorful sliding puzzles contained in the Mario-style overworld map.

Once upon a time… Bardadum: The Kingdom Roads, a puzzle video game set in a humorous medieval world. The game is simple, accessible, and based upon the player’s common sense and observation. Follow the story of two friends: a bard and a knight traveling through the Bardadum kingdom. May their quest become yours. Help 16 characters find their respective objects without blocking the paths of other characters.

SolForge

Come oooooooon, Blizzard, release the Android version of Hearthstone already. If you’re as impatient with the free-to-play card game as I am, perhaps you’ll use SolForge (which has the same basic Magic: The Gathering structure) to tide you over. This fleshed-out trading card game features online multiplayer, a deck builder, and a tournament mode. The summoned creatures in the game can “level up,” a la the evolutions in the Pokemon trading card game, but you’ll have to pay extra to build your collection quickly.

SolForge is a free-to-play digital collectible game in which players construct their own decks to challenge their friends or battle against the computer. The current open beta version includes deckbuilding, collection management, online play, AI opponents, tournaments, drafts, and more. Players can customize their decks with cards from their collection that they can earn through gameplay or purchase from the store. Try it now absolutely free.

Dragons: Rise of Berk

How To Train Your Dragon was one of the best animated movies in recent years, and the sequel is surprisingly good as well. So naturally Dreamworks wants to cash in with mobile games. Unfortunately, the originality on display in the movies isn’t really here: it’s the same village building game you’ve seen for almost every movie property in the last few years. The dragon breeding aspect might appeal to fans of the movies or TV series, but that’s about it.

Horde of Heroes

Look, devs, Puzzle Quest came out years ago. There have been innumerable clones since then. You need something new and interesting to get people to look twice at your RPG-Bejeweled mashup, and no, “retro” pixelated visuals do not count. This one comes from Noodlecake, which means it’ll at least be a decent game in its own right, and it includes co-op multiplayer play. However, standard in-app purchases for loot and power-ups is a little off-putting.

Hordes of Heroes is a Free To Play Match-3 RPG placing the player in the role of a medieval Hero whose quest is to set out and save the kingdom from evil doers, ne’er-do-wells and generally unsavory characters. Along the way, you can unlock new powers, gain new loot for over 1 million different combinations of equipment, and find real-life friends on the battlefields to help you in your quests.

Shibe!

Move over DogeCoin: there’s a new idiotic meme cash-in in town.

Shibe the Doge is not gonna let anything stop his eternal quest to find the “Epic Wow”. Not even telekinetic laser-shooting cat heads and gelatinous dual-phasing ground-hopping rooster heads. Control Shibe as he zaps his way through the andromeda galaxy, where he uses his powers of rocket science and space physics to vaporize the enemies that gets in his way in the path to the “Epic Wow.” Wow.
