[APK Download] My Tracks 2.0.9 Update Brings Google Fit Integration, Becomes Far More Useful In The Process
For a long time, Google’s My Tracks app was basically a niche app, if not just a novelty. However, the recent addition of Android Wear support started to get things to make more sense. Location tracking on a smart watch is more convenient and may render obsolete the GPS watches of yesteryear. With the new 2.0.9 update, My Tracks has Google Fit support, giving My Tracks some credibility as a fitness app.
If you haven’t heard of it, My Tracks will track your movements for you using GPS when you ask it to. This is not to be confused with Google’s location history service, which just does it all the time. My Tracks is useful if you want more precision and more shareable data, which might be nice when you are into hiking or things like that. There are more dedicated fitness apps like RunKeeper and MapMyRun that will probably be of greater appeal to the fitness crowd. Well, at least that was true before this update. For some, the Google Fit support will make the relative lack of features in My Tracks forgivable.
With this update, you will be prompted when saving a “track” to see if you’d like to sync to Google Fit. This means you won’t have to do any manual exporting, saving .tcx files and importing them into another program, and some of the other clunky things you might have to do with your current setup.
This may be a staged rollout, but we have the APK download for you.
