StreamNation App Offers 20GB Of Space For Streaming Audio And Video With Chromecast Support
There are a lot of cloud storage apps out there, but StreamNation is one that has a very particular focus. As you might guess, it’s all about the stream: the app and service are designed around remotely accessing video, audio, and photo content on top of everything else. The new Android app was just released in the Play Store, and it’s surprisingly complete for a new service. You’ll need a free account, or link it to Facebook (but not Google+).
Someone had fun with that center screenshot.
Uploaded content is automatically divided by file type into video, audio, and photo folders. You might think that this is ideal for pirates, and it probably is, but the service is actually intended to be used for high-definition video taken with DSLR cameras. The myriad file types from the various camera models and manufacturers are all supported, but with a generous 20GB of space on the free account, I think users with phones that support 4K video recording could find a use for it as well.
Seriously, check out all this file type playback support:
– Image format supported: arw, .cr2, .dcr, .dng, .eps, .erf, .kdc, .nef, .orf, .pef, .raf, .rw2, .sr2, .x3f, .bmp, .dpx, .gif, .jpg, .pdf, .png, .ps, .svg, .tif
– Video format supported: .asf, .avd, .avi, .cdg, .divx, .dv, .evo, .flc, .flv, .lvf, MPEG, .m2ts, .mts, .mkv, .mov, .mp4, .mxf, .nsv| .nut, .ogv, .pss, .rm, .streamdump, .tp, .ts, .VOB, .wmv, 3GPP
– Music format supported: mp3, ogg, m4a, wav, flac, aiff, aif, aac, wma
– Support for .srt subtitles
Impressively, the app can import files from all kinds of other services, notably Dropbox, Google, Drive, and OneDrive, and the photo portion imports from Facebook, G+, Flickr, and Instagram. Videos can be grabbed from your personal YouTube, DailyMotion, or Vimeo accounts. Basically, StreamNation wants to suck up every piece of digital content you have with a giant straw. Files can then be re-shared with SN embeds, and the Android app supports Chromecast right out of the box. It’s just too bad that there’s no Dropbox-style desktop program at the moment.
The 20GB free tier is impressive, but if you need even more storage, you’ve got some options. 100GB is five bucks a month, 500GB costs $10, a terrabyte will run you $15 a month, and unlimited storage can be yours for $20 a month (with small discounts for paying a year in advance).
